- 4 slices of bread Brioche, Sourdough, or Challah – choose thick, hearty bread for the best texture
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon ground
- 1 tablespoon butter for frying
- ¼ cup strawberry jam or any jam of your choice
- Powdered sugar optional, for dusting
- Maple syrup optional, for serving
Prepare the Egg Mixture:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
Assemble the Bread:
Spread a generous amount of jam on one side of each bread slice. Press two slices together, jam side facing in, to form a sandwich.
Dip the Bread:
Dip the jam-filled bread slices into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly. Let any excess mixture drip off.
Cook the French Toast:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Fry the bread slices for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
Serve:
Place the French toast on a plate. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup if desired.
-
For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free bread.
-
You can swap the jam with other fillings like Nutella or fruit preserves.
-
Don’t over-soak the bread in the egg mixture to avoid sogginess.
