Equipment

  • Skillet or frying pan | Shallow bowl for egg mixture | Knife (for spreading jam) | Spatula

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread Brioche, Sourdough, or Challah – choose thick, hearty bread for the best texture
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon ground
  • 1 tablespoon butter for frying
  • ¼ cup strawberry jam or any jam of your choice
  • Powdered sugar optional, for dusting
  • Maple syrup optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Prepare the Egg Mixture:
  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
  • Assemble the Bread:
  • Spread a generous amount of jam on one side of each bread slice. Press two slices together, jam side facing in, to form a sandwich.
  • Dip the Bread:
  • Dip the jam-filled bread slices into the egg mixture, coating both sides evenly. Let any excess mixture drip off.
  • Cook the French Toast:
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Fry the bread slices for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve:
  • Place the French toast on a plate. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free bread.
  • You can swap the jam with other fillings like Nutella or fruit preserves.
  • Don’t over-soak the bread in the egg mixture to avoid sogginess.
